TMC Biodesign is a one-year healthcare innovation fellowship program that brings together talented individuals from various backgrounds — including engineering, medicine, business, computer science, design, and research— to create digital health and medical device solutions.

TMC Biodesign will be recruiting Innovation Fellows for 2 tracks:

TMC Biodesign Medical Device Innovation Fellowship -- Our Medical Device Fellows build solutions around diagnostics, minimally invasive devices or implants, surgical and clinical tools, and other innovative devices that will change the way care is delivered.

TMC Biodesign Digital Health Innovation Fellowship -- TMC Biodesign was the first fellowship program that applies the Biodesign innovation process to build cutting edge digital health solutions in web, mobile, cloud, and data. We've integrated much of our accelerator curriculum and pulled from existing methodologies to


Largest medical center in the world: Access to resources and mentorship at the Texas Medical Center. The Texas Medical Center includes prestigious institutions, such as: MD Anderson, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s, Methodist, CHI St. Luke’s, UT Health, and Harris Health.

The Biodesign process: Curriculum and guidance based on a proven innovation approach, which consists of three stages: identify, invent, implement. We also put our spin on the process to best leverage our resources and most optimially develop your startup.

Unique environment for entrepreneurs: Fellows will be creating their solutions in TMCx, a startup accelerator in the Texas Medical Center that provides a collaborative ecosystem and valuable mentorship community for some of the most promising healthcare startups (learn more at In addition, the TMC Innovation Institute houses Johnson & Johnson Innovation's JLABS incubator and AT&T's Connected Health Foundry, all resources Fellows will have access to.

Prototyping support: We provide resources and prototyping funding for each team to iterate and get your ideas off the ground. Prototyping facilities at both TMCx and at Johnson & Johnson Innovation's JLABS incubator will be available.

Personal development: Fellows have opportunities to learn about and meet the people behind cutting edge technologies and trends at leading digital health and medical device conferences (expenses are paid for by the program).

A competitive stipend: TMC Biodesign fellows will receive a stipend in addition to health benefits.


Candidates will be judged for their ability to become leaders and innovators in healthcare. We will look at demonstrated creativity and ability to develop and implement solutions. We encourage applicants from a wide-range of backgrounds and expertise to apply. In the past, we have considered clinicians, engineers, designers, researchers, coders/hackers, entrepreneurs, consultants, policy experts, architects, and artists.

Our results in the inaugural year were tremendous. Check out a company we spun out of the program in the first year, IntuiTap Medical. The company after graduating the program in September 2016 has gone on to raise funding, participate in several startup accelerators, and two of the Fellows were named to MDMI's Rising MedTech Stars and Forbes' 30 Under 30 for the solution they developed in the Biodesign program.
