Lifeguards provide our members, guests and customers with a safe and clean aquatic environment. Their primary duty is to monitor pool activities and ensure member safety. It is paramount that Lifeguards possess an extensive general knowledge of preventative lifeguarding and the rules and regulations of the aquatic environment. Lifeguards are expected to have adequate knowledge of the overall operations and facility amenities of the Department. We pride ourselves on the provision of excellent customer service. It is imperative that our staff treats everyone with the utmost courtesy and respect. All staff must have a positive attitude and enjoy interacting with the public.
Lifeguards are responsible for reporting to work in a timely manner and being properly stationed and equipped to protect and serve those customers using municipal aquatic facilities. In addition to these responsibilities, they are required to assist in the opening and routine maintenance of identified facilities and amenities, completing various reports and correspondence as directed, issuing and receiving equipment & supplies and assisting in securing the facilities and amenities upon closing.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors activities at the pool and surrounding areas to prevent accidents. Maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas. Properly stationed and equipped during lifeguarding rotations.
Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, enforces and adheres to facility rules and regulations.
Responds quickly, intelligently, decisively and in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures. Performs rescues, extrications, first-aid, CPR/AED as required.
Provides superb customer service to members, customers, and guests. Handles customer issues and complaints professionally and in a timely manner.
Provides superb customer service to members, customers and guests. Meets and greets customers, assists them and direct them to the proper swim lesion, class, room or facility. Personalizes the experience for all guests. Handles customer issues and complaints professionally and in a timely manner.
Exhibits a positive attitude and a “can do mentality” during all in-person interactions. Ensures correct information is provided to customers. Demonstrates thorough knowledge with, and the ability to effectively communicate, all programs and activities offered through the Parks & Recreation Department, to citizens and other customers.
Inspects and ensures facility cleanliness by performing janitorial and maintenance duties including but not limited to taking out trash, cleaning restrooms and vacuuming or sweeping floors.
Performs maintenance as needed to ensure pool cleanliness including vacuuming pool, scrubbing pool plaster and tile.
Sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for classes, training and/or meetings or any other activity.
Responsible for administrative duties as assigned by superiors including documents pool chemicals checks; completes incident reports; documents checklists for pool openings, play features, safety, daily operations, cleaning, and maintenance.
Demonstrates regular and timely attendance at work as scheduled and reports to work free from the effects of illegal drugs or alcohol. Must not be impaired due to use of prescription drugs.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age, age 16 preferred. Lifeguarding and customer service experience preferred. Applicants must possess an Approved Governing Body Current Lifeguard and Professional Rescuer Certification (American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Associates or other nationally recognized certification program) prior to employment start date.
