Our day treatment and private school  program seeks talented and motivated University students to assist in our behavior, social skills training, and community-based therapy  program for special needs children ages 2- 12yr especially those with autism.. We help students with high functioning autism learn language, self-monitoring of problematic behaviors, and social skills they need to succeed in larger school settings.  Our program combines Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies with Montessori education materials and methods in a novel approach to natural environment therapy and academic programming.    Teaching Aides/ Therapists in Training  work with individual students one-on-one, though we occasionally organize group activities for socialization and fieldtrips out in the community.  We employ speech, OT, PT, and kinesiology methods to foster use of spoken language and appropriate socialization, and for development of activities for daily living.  We employ dramatic play, music, art, & cooking to foster attention and compliance with multi-step instructions.   Direct supervision & training for these positions are provided by highly skilled therapists and educators, and this work can lead to national certification in ABA for interested persons.    P/T and F/T positions with highly flexible work schedules may be arraigned to fit University sudies.   We seek those with interests in Special Education, Psychology, Speech Path, OT/PT and adaptive PE as trainees.  Hourly rates for compensation are negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Attend clinic and observe professional therapists and assist with children during therapy sessions; assist students in following directions  and preparation for instruction
  • Assist therapy Staff with arriivals/departures from clinic as Parents arrive; greet families 
  • Learn some strategies of managing behaviors and use of Montessori curricula
  • Assist students during lunch break and outside recess activities
  • Assist Director and Senior Staff in preparing teaching materials, filing reports
  • Assist with telephone calls and preparing daily reports for Parents as directed by Staff
  • Learn remedial web-based reading program known as Fast ForWord and attend each child as they work on individual reading instruction

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check 
  • Reliable transportation a must
  • Able to develop positive rapport with students
  • Excellent communication skills and be a good team member
  • Have a cheerful and positive attitude toward co-workers and children attending Clinic
